I lost track of time

.

Lets be honest, it has been a while since I wrote a blog post hasn’t it? – longer than the awkward silence following a spectacular joke fail but not quite long enough to forget that I am British and attempt comedy at least three times in ever sentence, so get ready I have a lot of pent up bad jokeishness to release on you.

If we were to measure the time I have been neglecting this blog in beard length, it might look a little something like this – I think you will agree, the visual helps. Ahh Jolie, theres a reason we are no longer together. NB – If you own the rights to this picture then please don’t sur me – theres a good man, or woman.

The UK is no more….

.

For me anyway, don’t worry, it hasn’t been destroyed or anything. As a quick update, I am now living in the US, (mainly because the English accent works so well over here) and have slightly reduced the jet-setting lifestyle – for how long, we shall see – probably until my mistermeaners around the world catch up with me.

The Reason For This Post

.

A couple of posts piqued my interest recently, mainly “A Day In The Life Of…” posts by Neil Patel and Henri Junttilla, both of whom are well worth following if you do not already.

I find it fascinating to delve briefly into the lives and habits of different people during an average day to see how they tick, and it also satisfies my dark voyeuristic nature. I’m kidding of course, I don’t find it fascinating.

And so like all creative individuals of raw, unbridled talent before me, I have straight up gone and stolen other peoples ideas and will now shamelessly claim them as my own. Here is my third “A Day In The Life Of…” posts to followup the previous “A Day In The Life Of A Traveling Entrepreneur“ and “3 Months In The Life Of A Travelling Entrepreneur”, both of which were surprisingly popular you dark, voyeuristic readers you.

Granted, this might get me into trouble as some of the people I mention will no doubt read this as it gets posted on my Facebook wall. If you are one of these people, so sue me, and if you happen to be Mark Zuckerburg (founder of Facebook for anyone living under a rock) and are reading this (unlikely) then “damn you, you geeky self made genius, Facebook is killing me”

24 Hours In My Life ( Zero Convictions)

.

Here’s how my typical day looks at the moment. I pretty high on Red Bull right now so I may just throw in some outlandish lies into the mix, see if you can spot them.

I'm living here

.

I'm Driving This

.

10am: Wake up. Personally I believe it should be law that no one need rise before this time, anything beforehand is just unGodly.

10am-10.30: Protein Shake and breakfast while scanning “7 Life System“, check bank accounts, do Facebook (I only check this once a day – cue jaw drop but people, I choose life), check company profits for the last 24 hours, and watch a TED.com episode. I tried running early in the morning for a while, this lasted exactly one run and six near lorry collisions later to decided that any physical exercise before 12 is just suicidal.

10.30 – 12:00: Answer all emails, 15 minute Skype catchup with business partner, official business work and other such necessities. This is the only time I check email in a 24 hour period people, nothing is too important to wait 24 hours. The trick is to always either answer the mail or deleted it – never flag, it will not get done.

12.00 – 2.00: Food and workout. I found a great American store called Super Target which seems solely founded to ensure that I never have to cook again in my life. Bless you Super Target founder. Usual a salad and a ton of chicken or the odd DoDo, though just recently the slow carb meal thing aka Tim Ferris “4 Hour Workweek.” After lunch I usually head over the road to my cousins place to work out with what seems like the rest of the population in Kansas city but I am reliably informed is actually just the girls we hang out with on a regular basis and presumably like.

2.00 – 6.00: Business Development. This varies but I am usual out the house and either working on real estate deals, in meetings for new businesses or belting out ”Free Falling” (original version, none of that John Mayer crap) with the windows down in the Cadillac – (I am loved by the neighbourhood for this, I can tell). Currently launching a gym franchise and a magazine as well as a new property management business model so things are a little full – thankfully all my other partners are smarter than I am so things are going well.

This is cool, we are building a warehouse for EFS.

EFS Warehouse

.

6.00 – 8.00: Food, try to get a run in, usually distracted by movies. Food in America is awesome.

Bloc Burger

.

8.00 – 12.00: Social. Varies significantly but usual involves me getting my ass kicked at basketball, getting my ass kicked in poker, getting my ass kicked for talking at the cinema, scrapping my ass off roading, getting my ass kicked for hitting on the waitress at dinner, getting my ass kicked for splashing in the pool, simply getting my ass kicked for trying to be funny or sometimes just getting my ass kicked and no one tells me the reason. Fortunately the fact that I am currently dating Anne Hathaway helps.

.

12.00-2.00: Focussed business. I am a bit of a night owl and unfortunately real business has to take place. Heres my week structure.

Mondays – Brand and Marketing for current companies – Analytics, advertising, development, split testing, market analysis, comeption analysis and other wonderfully geeky things.

Tuesdays – Staff Stuff – All the guys that are part of my teams update me on Tuesdays so I go through all that and make sure everyone is moving forward and no one has died, that kind of thing.

Wednesdays - System improvements on websites, business practices and all other manner of things that will make my life easier in the future. I also factor in some time to learn new jokes, the Americans love it.

Thursdays and Fridays – New ventures. Whatever ideas I am playing with this is the time I focus on testing or developing them.

Saturdays – Hell no. Ok, thats a lie, sometime as I am writing this on a Sat evening – sad isn’t it.

Sundays – Hell no. Sunday is my day off. Though I should stop saying hell, a seven year old kid told me so then other day – I am shamed.

1:50 – 2:00: I set the mission critical tasks for the next week and do a quick bit of very manly journaling (It’s manly you doubters, I use words like “Hence”, “Ego” and “Visa vie”)

2:00-10:00: Sleep. I have tried all the different sleep patterns including polyphasic and for me, without 8 hours core I am just not a happy bunny – don’t judge me, I love my bed, it is comfy and made of real puppies.

.

Some oddities

.

Just so I can one up everyone else writing a “Day in…” post I thought I would include some little quirks of mine that help me be productive.

1. I only check and answer email once a day and never receive it on my Iphone. Again, I choose life and not becoming some crazed message answering service. Sometimes you do have to answer the inevitable “Why the hell (there’s the hell again) don’t you answer your phone?” questions. Here you have two options, 1. kindly explain the reason with humility and compassion or 2. Get new friends. I generally rarely use the former.

2. I tend to rarely answer my phone or texts as soon as they come in. Almost always I wait until I have finished what I was doing before replying or calling the person back. It is never life or death.

3. I 80/20 everything.

4. I time box everything.

5. I tend to wear a cape about 78% of the time. It just completes the outfit.

.

See you in 4,576 hours – possibly

.

And there you have it, you may hear again from me sometime soon or maybe not for another 6-8 months. Either way, after three days please just presume I have either been arrested for a super sexy crime, died or run away to join the circus – and not necessarily in that order.

This is yet another reader email that I am going to attempt to answer, if you have your own question then just email me with your name and a link if you have one.

This one is from Archie Cunningham, he asked:

At the moment I have this question which has been puzzling me for a while. There are so many things which are preached by successful entrepreneurs to make a habit. I’m interested to know if there are any that you have developed which has made the biggest difference to your life over the years?

So with three Red Bulls down and three to go, here is my highly caffeine influenced answer.

First off Archie, I am not entirely sure if you are coupling me in with the “Successful Entrepreneur” tag or simply saying “Successful Entrepreneurs” preach this, so what do you think Jonny? give me an un-successful entrepreneurs viewpoint. Either way I am too high on red bull to care.

As it happens I don’t see my self as a successful entrepreneur yet, not by my own personal benchmark anyway, so I will give you an unsuccessful entrepreneurs suggestions of the three habits that I have developed that have made the most impact in my life. First, a little Pictomin to help you remember the importance of a habit.

Cable Habits

Habits are a cable, we weave a thread everyday and soon cannot break it.

Your habits create the person that you are today. Like the thread of a cord each individual habit weaves together with others to form strong looped cables. Each of these cables combine in turn to create you. You are a combination of cables. Make sure you are weaving the right habits and not the wrong ones into strong cables, as once weaved they are difficult and uncomfortable to break.

This is actually pulled straight out a book called Pictomins which will be coming out on Boxing Day. You can find out more about Pictomins here or check out my other commercial and free ebooks here.

Top 3 Habits for Life Awesomeness

1. Automate Everything (Except Girlfriends)

Life is too short to waste time on things that can be done automatically. Therefore get into the habit of automating any task you possible can from RSS readers, through to auto email responders to awesome computer apps like BlackHole that does all your shutting down for you.

Nothing is too small for a bit of automation. At home in the UK, I have all my lights setup to one remote so I don’t have to spend the time going round and turning them all on individually. It may only save me 30 seconds, but that is 30 seconds, 10 times a day, everyday…and I feel like James Bond every time I do it.

A word of warning, DO NOT TRY THIS WITH GIRLFRIENDS…it will only end in pain, your pain…doled out in great bucket loads. Girlfriends are the exception to the automation rule.

2. When Things Go Badly, Give Up (But Only Temporarily)

Things don’t always go to plan do they. Sometimes, through no fault of your own, and sometimes (mainly in my case) completely by your own doing, things go badly, horribly wrong.

Though most would say that when things go wrong, in business, life or the relationship with your girlfriend, you should man up and sort it out straight away.

OH HELL NO. If you have every tried to angrily retype a recently lost document, panicky make up for lost sales due to a bad business decision, or persuade your girlfriend that you may have been a little bit wrong on the details but the overall plan was sound, you will know that situations tend to go downhill at an even more rapid pace in this scenario.

Best thing to do is to give up, take the day, weekend, week or in dire business situations, the month off and get your Chi back. Usually when things go wrong, even a simple 24 hours respite and time away from the problem will make it a hundred times easier to solve and you just might keep your hair into your old age.

Again be careful with the girlfriend, a month off can put considerable strain on the relationship.

3. Set A Day Schedule (And Then Sometimes Break It)

Structure baby, thats what it is all about. A day schedule, unlike school is something you set for non work related tasks in your life that help you structure your week.

For example:

I try to get to the gym Monday, Wednesday and Friday, play hockey on Tuesday and Saturday, do a long run on Thursday and do nothing on Sunday. That is my fitness schedule generally.

Monday to Friday I focus from 9 till 6 or so on work and try to do something social in the evenings.

Saturday I only work if I have outstanding tasks from the week and try to get out and stay out of the house.

Sunday I plan, clear up, do the washing and all those other lovely bits that go into the process of living but generally do nothing. I try not to turn the computer on if at all possible.

Now for the best part, you remember back in school when it used to be called off on short notice and you suddenly have a whole day to yourself, best feeling in the world (tied with kissing your girlfriend, if she is reading this). You can have that again.

Generally I stick to this schedule, not because I have ridiculous self control, I do not, but simply because it is a habit so ingrained into me over months and years. However, from time to time I cheat and don’t do the gym, take a day off work, or spend Saturday at home away from everyone eating cake and watching crappy movies. Honestly, it is the most amazing feeling in the world.

Just remember to keep your girlfriend in the loop about what you are or are not doing. (You have been warned)

How To Find a Great Mentor – The Three Things You Can Do Right Now

Examples Of Great Mentors and the chance to be mentored by me

Read Time: 4 Minutes

Picture this. It’s the 2012 Olympics and its the 100 metre final. Good old Usain Bolt is there and his looking in good shape, definitely a great contender for the the title. Before the gun goes off you realize that Bolt has been move 25 metre’s ahead of the other runners, and is now a lot nearer to the finishing line. Unfair?

This is what a mentor will do for you, no matter how good you are. They will put you nearer the finishing line.

.

30 Second Summary

Not having a good mentor is costing you dearly. Without their guidance and experience, you are going to have to start at the very beginning and make all the mistakes yourself.

A good mentor will bring you more success, more quickly and make the journey a whole lot more fun if you a. choose the right ones and b. leverage their experience and guidance well.

The best way to ATTRACT a great mentor into your life is first to BE a great mentor, (although the alluring aroma of freshly baked pastry products can work wonders as well.)

A great mentor, like a great parachute, is only worth while if you use them correctly, and if both sides of the partnership benefit from the arrangement.

.

The Mentor Relationship – Yoda/Skywalker

Behold the mentor/mentored relationship. Truly one of life’s most beautiful unions. They the wise and worldly provider of sagely advice, you the young (or not so young) and ambitious upstart with the world at your feet, and a light-sabre in hand.

Let’s be honest, when we think mentor, we are all thinking karate kid aren’t we?… And in many ways a great mentor is very much like the great Mr Muage.

In my life, I have been fortunate to have had a few great mentors to date and as a sign of respect, I would like to highlight my current mentors – Simon Davies, Managing Director of UKs Striding Out and David Parish of ” TShirts and Suits” fame.

.

What a good mentor will do for you

Notice I said a good mentor, not a great mentor. Not all mentors need to be great for you to get a dumper trucks worth of value from them.

.

A good mentor will do three thing:

Offer advice from a place of experience

Be a sounding board for your ideas and dreams.

Challenge you.

A good mentor does not need to be an expert, a celebrity or even own a bonsai tree.

.

A good mentor needs only:

To take an active interest in you and your future

Have more experience in what you want to do then you do

Be a good listener

.

A series of good mentors throughout your life really will be the difference between finding the success you seek or being left frustrated and deflated.

A good mentor, if you let them, will help you organize your thoughts, challenge your assumptions, ask the questions others won’t and offer an alternative view. If you have picked your mentors well it is likely they will have, to a degree, done what you want to do and so can offer insight into you current situation. If you are really lucky, they may also teach you the wax on wax off method.

Good mentors are not hard to come by, if you know where to look and what to look for.

.

How To Find A Great Mentor

The trick to finding a good mentor is to realise that the very best of them are not initially obvious. Mentors will change throughout your life and it is likely that you will have many throughout your time here on earth, so it is important to realize that you do not simply signup a few over a couple of days and be done with it.

You should always be on the lookout for people who can sow into your life and for people for whom you can sow into THEIR life as a mentor yourself.

My very best mentors to date have been the ones that have not been planned but instead have developed out of the most unlikely of places. As an example and to show my respect and appreciation to some of the past mentors in my life I would like to highlight a few.

.

My Dad – Many peoples first mentors will be a family member and mine was no different. Your parents will normally be your most avid supporters and I was fortunate to have a great father figure in my life and one willing to give me the time and effort as well as was wise enough to help shape my direction in life.

.

Matt Johnson – Matt, Managing Director and Founder of the very successful MandoGroup design firm in the UK, took the risk and invested into my first ultimately doomed business. Over 18 months he mentored me in good business practice and got my head straight on the many aspects of entrepreneurship that I was particularly naive on. He has also been good enough not to hunt me down for the money I lost.

.

Mr Desborouogh – This old sports teacher, who I never really liked that much and unfortunately died in a tragic javelin accident many years ago, never the less made me the sportsman and captain I became at university because he would not take my moaning and wingeing when I was younger. He pushed me hard and I eventually thanked him for it.

.

Tim Good – Founder of NothingButPadlocks.com. As much as I hate him for making so much more money than I do, Tim is one of my peer mentors. For those that don’t know, we have a mutual mentorship arrangement which is grounded in setting goals for each month and having forfeits if we don’t reach them. Everyone should have one, and I think Tim owes me lunch.

.

Robert Kiyosaki of “Rich Dad” fame. One of my great mentors over the last 5 years. I have never met him and he is unlikely to know who I am. However, through his books and educational products, the first of which I found in Oxfam, he has mentored me in the ways of finance and becoming rich.

.

I wrote a book recently which summed up everything I had learned on the art of becoming rich from Robert over the last few years, partly out of respect for him, partly to help cement the knowledge for myself by teaching others and partly to create passive income. There is a quick overview and link below.

.

If you don’t know that we are now in the Information age and no longer in the industrial one then you will be playing the money game by the wrong set of rules and you are throwing money away because of it. Stop it now in less than an hour.

I especially love [it's] take on money and the teaching part, very kick ass !
.

The Three Things You Can Do Right Now To Find Your First Or Next Mentor

.

1.	Focus on finding someone TO mentor – If you get out of focusing on yourself and first focus on others it is amazing how many doors this will open up for you. By becoming a mentor first you will start to learn what makes a good mentor and finding your own will be come easier. Remember, to be a mentor, you need only to know slightly more than the person you are mentoring, genuinely care for the individual and their success, and be able to listen.

.

2.	Go to the right environments – Actively seek out the people that are doing the things that you want to do. Put yourself in those environments and develop the relationships. A mentorship is simply an advanced relationship but it must start with A relationship.

.

3.	Ask the question – The thing about mentors is that they will generally not ask you, so you have to be the one that is courageous. If you respect someone and think they can sow into your life then you need to ask the question – “Will you mentor me” Remember, mentorship is not just a one way street and though many people love to teach, they are investing their time into you. Always try and to pay that investment by buying the coffee and cakes.

What are you waiting for? Not having a mentor is costing your dearly.

.

Would You Like To Be Mentored By Me?

.

To finish, and to prove I practice what I preach, here is an offer. I am currently looking for a new mentoree and want to open the offer to one of my readers who have really benefited from thelifething.com so that I can hopefully give them more value.

.

As a mentoree I will try and to dedicate at least a 1 hour skype session a month with you as well as email correspondence for as long as the mentorship relationship is needed. There is obviously no charge involved and I will freely give of my time and knowledge.

.

I will not, however, want to waste my time with the wrong person, so if you are serious about wanting to be mentored then you need to either leave me a comment in this post or send me an email to jonny@thelifething.com stating two things:

How reading thelifething has so far benefited you?

How I would be able to help you as your mentor?

.

Thanks for reading and I would love to here your comments on mentorship, being a mentor or light sabers. Also, if you jave enjoyed the article I would really appreciate a few seconds of your time to spread it around using the links below.

Cheers all.

Read Time: 6 Minutes

So a mate and I have got into the habit of setting some goals to achieve every month based on the 7Life System. Stupidly though we also though it would be a good idea to attach forfeits to missed goals every month. Last month we both missed out on completing all our goals and so this month were the forfeits. (This Post is a little late)

.

.

July Forfeit – The Tim Ferris Score

You know the Tim Ferris challenge where you have to lie down for a minute in the middle of a busy street? Well, easier said then done. I had struggled with actually doing it for years. We set is as a forfeit, we both missed our goals. Now way out for either of us.

Here is mine.

And here is Tim’s

Having settled the score and actually done it do you know what the biggest realisation I had was – strangers really don’t give a rats ass about you. It’s a very freeing realisation. There are very few things you can do that will actually shock people, almost all of our fear and apprehension about anything is in our minds.

When I was lying on the ground in the middle of a busy Liverpool shopping centre my heart was thumping and I thought everyone would be looking and making comments. Having reviewed the videos, this couldn’t have been further from the truth. I could probably put out a beach towel, stripped to some swim shorts and have made a pinocolada and incited little extra interest.

Most of the challenges that we face that destroy our confidence is due to nothing more than unfounded fear in the mind. Once you have experienced first hand that very few people care what you are doing, you are in a great position to take bigger and better risks.

Usually, the bigger the risk, the bigger the potential payoff so start small and do the “Tim Ferris Challenge” If you record it, leave a link in the comments and if there are enough I will created a post highlighting them all.

Why Read ? (1200 Words)

This is a quest post from Bake, a 26 year old online blogger with an abundance of inspirational thoughts to share with the world. He shares his viewpoint on life at bakerthebrand.com

.

Hello all

I Developed My Positive Outlook Over Time. My positive outlook in life is something I’ve learned to develop over the years. While I was growing up, it wasn’t always this way. I grew up in a home with yelling and self limiting and negative belief systems.

.

These self limiting belief systems became my reality, because at an early age you don’t really know what to believe unless your parents tell you so. I would say that the majority of my teenage life it was easier for me to look at the negatives in life way before I saw the positive things. This lead to excessive partying, drinking, and some drugs. Teenage years are usually filled with a lot of confusion anyway, but when I added the negative thoughts with this, it made for a pretty gloomy dark way of life.

.

It wasn’t until I began to study and read books on personal development and self help that I began to see the negative thought patterns that were no longer serving me. This different way of thinking didn’t have anything to with being realistic, or unrealistic. It became a way of thinking that allowed me freedom to create my own reality. It gave me back the power that lies in each one of us.

.

Personal Development Seminars

I began to attend seminars on topics that made me improve my way of life dramatically.

.

I can remember in particular in 2004 attending an Expo in Los Angeles, CA. where Russel Simmons was one of the keynote speakers and he said something very profound that stuck with me until this day. He said, high achievers, and or very successful people develop this thing inside of them called “An unwavering and strong belief in the unseen.“

.

With this he was referencing a strong held belief of your life’s mission or vision for yourself. It sent chills up my spine the moment he stated this. The message really resonated with me. If I was ever to get to a place in my life where my dreams would come true, I would have to develop this faith, this belief in the unseen. I started to recognize that if that vision of what I wanted in my life was real inside of me, then it was just a matter of time and proper actions steps to actually get there in my phsyical reality.

.

Victim v.s Victor

Many people go around life in complain mode, and always try to find what is wrong with their life. It is a lot easier to find the wrong or negative thing in life, than it is to find the positive things in life. This is mainly because of how most of us were socially conditioned to believe in our younger years.

.

From my personal experience and observation, a negative outlook on life will eventually lead you to that exact same place, a negative place, filled with whining, complaining, little progress, and self victimization. My personal experience has showed me that a constant negative outlook on life really just leaves you a victim to circumstances versus the victor in the circumstances.

.

Maintaining A Positive Outlook For Yourself

Maintaining a positive outlook on life, allows your dreams and visions for the future to come true. It allows you the opportunity to see opportunities when they arise and take positive action towards them. Maintaining a positive outlook on life, allows you to become the victor in circumstances, and not the victim. This positive outlook on life attracts to you the people, and resources that will assist and help you on your progress. A positive outlook on life gives you a proactive approach in life and allows you to create the life you want.

.

This positive outlook keeps you empowered.

.

Many of the wonderful and amazing opportunities that have come to me as a result of these blogs, have come from maintaining a positve outlook on life. Two books I’ve written that I’m passionate about, have been successfully completed from my positive outlook in life.

.

Even if you aren’t clear on what your mission or vision for life is quite yet, just knowing and truly believing that one exist for you, and maintaining a positive outlook on life will help assist you in this process of self discovery, and personal development. Below I have included the 5 results that I benefit from by maintaining a positive outlook on life.

.

5 Results I Benefit From by Maintaining A Positive Outlook on Life

1. More Clarity

My days are generally filled with clear thoughts when I choose to think more positive. This is because clarity for me comes from an honest and true place of light. This mindset is where I find most clarity. As you begin to maintain a positive outlook in life, a lot more clarity in your life begins to unfold. This is because the spirit progresses forward when you are focused on the positive things in life, and thus makes your decisions more spirit based, and therefore more clearer. This awareness of a maintaining a positve outlook on life, will give your life more clarity.

.

2. Better Connections with others

A positive outlook has allowed me to say what I mean, and mean what I say. People know where they stand with me, because I can clearly get my point across when needed. A positive outlook in your life will allow you this same type of communication with others. As your inner world becomes positive, your outer world also becomes positive. Therefore, your outer world communications with others, become better as a result of a positive outlook. The truth is that better communications with others comes from maintaining a positive outlook in life.

.

3. Develop More Creativity

For me it is much easier to create a blog post when my thoughts are positive. This is because I know that when my ideas are positive and clear, I can have a better way of communicating through written word, my true intentions for a particular post. As you develop a more positive outlook on life, you begin to see your creativity enhance if you choose. Practice keeping positive thoughts in your daily life, and you will come up with creative ideas to either solve problems, and create value for others to enjoy.

.

4. More Excitement!

I live an exciting life. No two days are ever the same for me. A positive outlook keeps everything in focus for me, and thus allows me to experience a lot more excitement on a daily basis. Through the law of attraction my positive thoughts attract to me exciting places to be and experience. For instance I’m always being invited to fun parties and exciting events because of my positive attitude. This is because my positive thoughts transmute an energy out to the universe that allows for these fun and exciting events and opportunities to manifest in my life. As you begin to think in more positive ways, the same will happen for you.

.

5. More Opportunity to share

Through this blog, I have the opportunity to share my philosophies, and personal development journey with many others. Through my Youtube videos, I am allowed to share joy, inspiration, and empowerment. This all results from a positive outlook. I enjoy this feeling, of being able to share this.

As you begin to take on a more positive outlook on life, you will have the same opportunity to share with other people in a positive way. You will be able to take advantage of the opportunity share your talents, wisdom, and gifts to others.

Please let me know what you think about this post, leave me a comment above this post. Thank you!!!

How To Change Your Current Reality By Inflating A Bigger Balloon For A Better Life

.

Why Read

Possibly the most important post I have ever written and the most powerful in terms of changing your reality and effecting the rest of your life.

A highly visual and critical lesson in your current reality and the implications it has for the rest of your life. You cannot afford to miss this one.

.

Reality And The Future

Your current reality is at the core of who you are and the life you are living right now. What reality you have in the future will determine who you are and the life you will be living then. Visualizing this need in order to upgrade your reality is difficult and the reason I have developed the concept of Reality Balloons.

.

The Reality Balloons

One of these balloons will define your current reality and one will define your future reality. You can be happy in both just as you can be unhappy in both. Whether you are happy in life or not will determine which balloon you want to be in and whether that is indeed the case.

Your reality can be best illustrated visually by a balloon.

Some people have a very small balloons and their current reality is very limited. Others have slightly bigger balloons and live a much larger reality, other still have huge balloons and live a life many of us cannot imagine. Here are the balloons.

.

The Birthday Balloon Reality

Most people only ever own a birthday balloon throughout their lifetime.

You know the ones, small size and usually have some simple or ironic birthday message like “Happy 13th Birthday” or “Now That You Are 25 – No More Sheep”.

Some peoples birthday balloons are more inflated than others but all are limited to a very small size, small enough for a child to hold.

People that I would put in this category are those stuck in a 9-5 job – the deflated balloon owners hate their jobs and the highly inflated balloon owners love them but are trapped by them.

.

The Fairground Balloon Reality

Some others in life own fairground balloons.

They have a bigger reality and thus live a bigger life than most. There are quite a people who own fairground balloon realties.

People I put in this category are those currently living their dreams, owning a small business, living where they want and having more free time than most. They work hard, they play hard but their reality is still small enough to be held by hand. They mainly work for themselves and have very little effect on the lives of others.

.

The Hot Air Ballon Reality

Still others own Hot Air Balloon Realties.

They have a large balloon and a large reality, it cannot be grounded by any individual nor in fact by many people.

The hot air balloon reality has huge amounts of lift and can carry the owner and others up to very high heights.

People I put in this category are large business and charity owners, the builders of organizations and systems that make themselves rich and help a huge amount of others in the process through products, services and job opportunities.

They enjoy the best things in life and they make positive impacts on hundreds of people in their home cities and countries.

.

The German Airship Reality

A small number of people in this world have airship realities.

Nothing short of powerful machinery can keep them from becoming airborne and rising to incredibly heights.

The Airships have unrivaled power and lift. They lift hundreds and thousands of people up with them.

I put people like Henry Ford, Edison, Warren Buffet and Richard Brandson into this category.

They live lives that most can not even dream about. They can have and experience anything this world has to offer and in their success they change the lives of millions around the globe through their ideas, businesses and systems.

.

Your Future Reality

Where are you currently? Are you a birthday balloon, a fairground variety, or do you own a hot air balloon or just perhaps you almost have an airship.

Your future reality is first determined by what you think. If you cannot imagine ever owning the ballon above where you are now then you will NEVER be able to achieve it. Success first begins in the mind, and then through focus and hard work, is translated into reality.

You can be happy or miserable within any balloon reality so bigger is not always better. Which reality you will be happiest in is decided by you and who you are.

If you are a person who wants to own a hot air ballon reality but you stay with a birthday balloon one all your life, then you will never find peace and contentment.

There is a huge exponential difference between the four balloon realties and one cannot simply keep inflating your current balloon to get to the next size up. A paradigm shift needs to occur.

.

Content Verses Context – Expanding Your Reality

A paradigm shift is defined as A radical change in thinking from an accepted point of view to a new one

You cannot simply inflate you current balloon reality to the next size up. If you try to put as much air as is in a fairground balloon into a birthday ballon it will burst.

The same thing goes for a hot air balloon into a fairground and an airship into a hot air balloon, except that in these cases the difference is exponential.

To move to the next air balloon reality you need to pop your old balloon and upgrade to the next one up. Like busting a balloon this will be a shocking experience. When you burst a birthday ballon, you flinch. When you burst a birthday balloon reality, you definitely flinch.

I bursted my birthday ballon the moment I quit my high paying job and realized I was living the wrong reality. I could have spent my life inflating air into this balloon reality and might have got it to inflate to its very peak. Then, around age 35-40 I would overfill it and it would burst. I would be left with nothing because I had too much ambition for the balloon but it took me 20 years to work it out.

I burst my balloon early, even though it was becoming nicely inflated. I had a great job, great pay, lots of travel, girls and great promotion opportunity.

I would have done well, made middle management and then top management. However I would have not been happy.

I was filling a balloon I didn’t want to end up with and so I had to make the tough decision to burst it. It was shocking, it was painful and most people couldn’t understand why the hell I would do that but I understood the reality ballon concept and realize that it had to be done.

The major pain with popping the balloon is that you now upgrade to the fair ground one but it has no air in it, and it is going to take a huge amount of time and effort to inflate to anywhere near my last one was.

This is painful but necessary. I am back to square one but now, I am filling a new balloon from deflated.

My paradigm shift happened and I couldn’t be happier even though the road ahead is going to be long and tough.

I know also that in the future I eventually want to own a hot air balloon or even an airship.

Each time I am going to have to burst the ballon I am in and this time it will be even more shocking and painful.

You also will need to decide what balloon reality you want to be in and make your decisions. If you are happy with a Birthday Balloon Reality then great, many people have been happy and successful with this approach. However if you want to be the owner of a fairground, hot air, or airship balloon then you cannot be wasting your time filling air into a Birthday balloon. No matter how full it gets you will never be happy until it bursts and then you will be left with nothing.

People will have different ballon realities at different times in life. You cannot go from Birthday Balloon straight to Airship without owning each of the two before it. Just make sure you know which reality balloon you are currently holding and if you are happy with it at this point in your life.

.

To Sum Up

Be honest with yourself and decide what reality ballon you are in. If you are happy to own this ballon, however well inflated, at the end of your life then great, stick with what you have and fill it to breaking point.

If however you want to own a different ballon, then you will never be happy no matter how much you fill your current one.

If you want to end up with a different ballon reality you have to first burst your current one. It will be painful, you will have to start again and you will have to work even harder but if that is what you want then you will not be happy any other way.

Please re-read this post because it is the most important one I have ever written and if you fully grasp the concept it will revolutionize your life.

Thanks for reading.

Everybody wants to be sexy and everybody wants to be wealthy but few are willing to make the decisions necessary put in the time required to learn how to created multiple streams of income so that they can become wealthy and live a sexy lifestyle. Big sentence, Big wakeup call. If you want to be wealthy in the future you are going to have to learn how to create rivers and not rely on pipelines. If you want to know why, read on.

Wordcount: >750

What Is Wealth

You cannot become wealthy having a job. No one in history has created lasting wealth this way, no matter how much one gets paid. Being wealthy isn’t just about having the money, it is just as much about having the time and freedom to enjoy the privileges that money provides.

.

Multiple Streams Of Income

Having multiple streams of income and ideally non-leveraged cash generating assets will help give you the very best chance to live the richest life you can dream of. Multiple streams of income will give you freedom from the pay check and the resources of time and money to pursuit whatever you wish; be that living abroad, going back to education, volunteering, experiencing the world or following in the footsteps of Batman. Whatever takes your fancy.

The trick is to create rivers, not maintain pipes

.

Create Rivers

Rivers are powerful because they are fed from many different streams.

If one stream is blocked or dries up, this does not affect the flow of the river greatly. Your finances should be structured like rivers also, having multiple streams feeding your main river of income so that if one stream dries up or stops, it does not have a detrimental effect on your quality of life and gives you time to create another one and replace it.

.

Don’t Maintain Pipes

Living from pay check to pay check is dangerous because your flow of income is more like a single man-made pipe.

If you lose your job then the flow of that pipe is stopped. A new pipe needs to be found quickly, and of a similar size as your last one to maintain your current lifestyle and this is not always easy or even possible. This pipe also, like your job, requires a huge amount of your time to maintain. The key to financial success is having your income flow structured like the natural rivers and streams that require very little, if any maintenance once created.

.

You Are Not Depriving Others

Thinking of your finances as an organic stream is a good image as it also highlights the fact that in this world the acquisition of wealth is not a zero-sum game.

In this we mean that, if one person acquires more, this does not result in another being left with less.

Put another way, the world’s total wealth is not like a pie, where if someone has a bigger slice then others are left with smaller ones. This is not how it works. Just like on an extensive mountain range there are multiple rivers all being fed by multiple streams, an additional stream will not result in less rain falling on the mountain side. There is enough rain for all.

Most financially successful people understand this concept, the trick is to create your non leveraged cash generating assets (streams) to help divert this abundance of wealth out there into your own personal income stream. Don’t worry, you will not be forcing others to live without.

This approach takes time to learn how to do, and it is far easier in the short term just to have a pipeline. However if you desire to be wealthy in the future then a pipeline is not enough, you need to have the streams. Learn how to create the streams and you will become wealthy.

Even if you enjoy having a job, as many do, it is a good idea to create multiple streams to supplement your income so that you are not DEPENDENT on your job. That is the key…not to be dependent on a job.

.

In Summary

Remember to keep your finances organic like the river with multiple streams feeding it and not man-made like the single pipeline which can be shut off at any time.

.

It is a question that has plagued mankind since the very beginning. How can one own the very best things but not have to resort to nicking it?

Well, here I have a suggestion. Sorry to all you career criminals out there, this approach is not against the law.

These days I don’t really own very much, mostly due to the fact that following traveling for 6 months with nothing more than a 32 litre rucksack I have fully adopted the minimalist lifestlyle.

That being said, I do own very high quality stuff as my brand is very important to me.

Having the best of everything in life does not necessarily mean bucket loads of money, it can be achieved more cost effectively by following a few principles. I know this because I like to own good things but I am also an entrepreneur and so am used to living on a bums wages as my companies eat all my capital.

So without further ado, here are few things to keep in mind if you want to own the very best of everything and have yet to win the lottery.

.

1. You don’t need 16 pairs of shoes

The biggest mistake people generally make is having too much stuff. The more stuff you have the more cost you have to shell out. Simple really.

When I overhauled my wardrobe I found that I had a lot of stuff, stupids amounts – 100 t-shirts, 20 pairs of trousers in various states of repair, lots of odd shoes and quite a few watches. All bought relatively cheaply no doubt but most of which I never wore.

Roughly calculating the cost I probably had a few thousand pounds worth of clothes I never wore. A massive waste of money by anyones standards.

I took the small amount of real high quality clothes and chucked the rest. My life is freer and I dress better.

Buying clothes is about value. Do you really need 8 pairs of trainer or would it make your life more enjoyable to invest in one really nice designer pair and one high quality set of runners? Same goes for jackets, shirts, tshirts, shorts and trousers.

You don’t need to be a slave to the ever changing seasonal looks. Find what clothes and colors work for you and invest in quality that will last. Be confident in your own style and feel good in the clothes you wear without having to change them ever month for the newest cut.

Invest in small amounts of high quality clothes for less than the price of large amounts of average quality ones. Look sharper and be richer.

.

2. Investing in One Apple Mac is better than 3 PCs

The thing about price is that things are not expensive or cheap, they are of high value or low value. My Macbook pro isn’t expensive but my PC netbook was.

My Macbook has high value because it brings joy to my life every day, helps me work more efficiently and will last many years. My netbook is low value because I don’t really need it, it is a hassle to use, tends not to work and I am ashamed to pull it out in public.

My Macbook was £1400 well invested that will give me great returns over many years, my £300 netbook was money wasted that has brought nothing to my life and was ditched.

.

3. A small piece of excellent chocolate is better than a bar of so-so.

It will always do your wallet, waistline and generally happiness a world of good to invest in small amounts of really good stuff.

Over the choice of a 30g bar of Galaxy chocolate or a 230g bar of supermarket own brand, choose the creamy Galaxy one. Buy a small amount of organic fruit and veg that you know you are going to eat and enjoy rather than a truck load of pesticide ones which mostly will be wasted. Take a three day holiday somewhere you want to be rather than a 2 week one because it is on offer.

.

To Sum Up

To experience the best things in life is simply about being disciplined and the choices you make about where you channel your money.

Remember things are never expensive or cheap, they are simple good value or not good value. The value of the goods will completely depend on you, not the price tag.

Concentrate on making more conscious buying decisions so that you can reduce waste and increase life quality. This approach done effectively really does allow you to experience the very best things in life.

Help Me Out

I have a “When time is playing ball” folder on my computer where I stash all the things I plan to work on when I have a spare moment. Today I had such a moment and so dug out this email from one of my readers.

Hey Jonny,

First of all thanks a lot for doing what you do on your blog, you have greatly inspired me to follow a similar path, I have already pointed that out in a comment on your 7 Life system. Currently also doing the 4-hour-work-week book from Tim Ferris, all of this is giving tons of energy. I have decided I need to and I will be an entrepreneur who manages his businesses to create the cashflow to do the things I want in life, and hope to inspire others to do the same.

Without further a due; as I believe every kind of thinking must be stimulated to be mastered (lessons from NLP), I was wondering if you knew a few tricks/tips to get an entrepreneurial mind, what has inspired you? I believe I already have a furious drive, I’ve had for a couple of years now and I finally feel I can put this powerful train on some tracks to actually go somewhere.

I have read your ebooks, blog and the several other blogs you talk about, this has inspired me for a great deal already, but I wish to speed up the process by changing the way I think, so maybe you can point out some things that has changed yours, if you would like.

A great thanks in advance,

Cheers,

Jordi Franken

The Netherlands

.

So thanks for the email Jordi and here are three practical killer tips for revolutionizing your thinking that will hopefully help you to focus that furious drive of yours.

.

Shake up your Reality

The problem most of us have in pushing forward towards success is that we are very much hindered by our current reality. What is holding us all back is the current reality we have in our minds.

How we operate at the moment all stems from our current reality. What we think we are capable comes from our current reality, even how we act and behave is derived from our current reality.

In short, our current reality and thus our mind is what is keeping most of us trudging through sludge in the pursuit of something more. We must wage war on small reality thinking.

How Warren Buffet invests is very different to how I invest because his reality is very different. How Richard Brandson acts and makes business decisions is very different to how I go about my own business because his reality is different to mine. What Ronaldo thinks he is capable of on the football field is very differnt to mine because his reality is different.

The greatest asset you have is your mind, an asset even more powerfull then chocolate fudge icecream, but is your thinking and you mindset is small, your successes will also be small. Small thinking creates small achievements.

To shake up your reality I recommend putting yourself in situations that are way above your current level of thinking and get in close contact, but not too close or we might have a lawsuit on our hands, with people that have a much larger reality then you do at present.

You will start to expand your reality by proxy of these people and these environment as you see people living and operating in a different reality. This reality will start to expand yours and so expand and change the way you act and behave.

This “expansion by proxy” is part of the reason the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor.

Kids from rich familys pick up and learn from a completely different reality than those kids from poor backgrounds and so in turn they grow to live in a completely different reality, one of great wealth and not poverty.

If you read the post “The power of expanding your reality as highlighted by my april fools millions” post, you will see that I am constantly trying to expand my reality away from where it is currently.

Expanding your reality is the first and most important step to achieving great things.

.

Read Ferociously

Though learning through association is a far more effective approach to learning and improving, it is not always possible and definitely not as freely available as learning through books.

If you want to get successful quickly then you need to start investing in knowledge and the best way to start that is to read ferociously. Chop through those books like a wild hungry squirrel with a fetish for paper.

Reading will expand your mind and give it a foundation of knowledge as well as fuel for creativity in whatever field you are in. It is like gasoline for your success spark.

For example, I am incredibly interested in money, finance and wealth creation at the moment and I want to be wealthy while I am still young. That being said it is not enough just to want to rich, I know I don’t know the first thing about how money works and how to create wealth because I come from a middle class background, not a rich one.

Therefore I read. This year I am reading a book a week on things relating to wealth, money and finance so that by the end of the year I will have a good foundation of knowledge to start getting creative and develop my own wealth creation.

Find what you want to be good at in life and then grab all the reading material you can get you grubby hands on on your chosen subject. Get your teeth and a good proportion of your face into some books.

.

Tell Great Stories Of Your Failures

No one likes to fail, fundamentally, because it is humiliating. Whenever you take a risk there is a chance that you are going to fail, this you can count on just like you can death, taxes and a shortage of chocolate fudge ice cream just when you want some.

You can also count on the fact that there will be people there to say “I told you so”, usually loud and in ear shot of many other people. Forget about these people, they risk nothing and so they do nothing and ultimately will gain nothing. Punch them in the back of the head if it makes you feel better.

However, the sting of failure can be lessened by embracing it and even celebrating in it. When people ask me about my business or my life I like to go into great detail on my failures, not my successes (mainly because I have more to talk about with failure than success). People are usually intrigued by this, thinking that focussing on failure seems a very negative approach to life, that or I am some kind of loon.

Perhaps, though this focus on where I went wrong allows me to correct the mistake and hopefully not make it again. Also, by bringing my failures to the centre of attention I am also allowing myself to let failure into my life. If I am happy to talk light heartedly about failure then future failures are easier to take light heartedly.

If you can look light heartedly on failure and laugh about it, you can risk bigger failure and it is by risking bigger failures that your expand your reality and ultimately achieve bigger things.

.

To Sum Up

Focus on expanding your reality first. If you have a small reality and work hard at success you will still only achieve small successes.

Read ferociously on the topics that interest you until you start seeing the themes repeat themselves. When this happens, read some more.

Finally, celebrate failure ad revel in your lack of success. It will allow you to succeed in the future.

.

I hope this helps both Jordi and you other lovely readers out there and if there are any more questions you may have or you wish me to expand on any of the points made above please leave me a comment or drop me an email.

It has been an incredible 9 months so far for me personally and so I want to give back to people in return for the good things that have come my way in life. This blog is my way of giving back and on it I discuss how you too can go about creating your idea lifestyle. I hope you continue to follow it and continue to derive real value from this blog for as along as I can keep my caffine fueled fingers moving.

Thanks to all my readers for being awesome.
