I used to work as a Project Manager for a Swiss engineering company who operated in the oil and gas industry. As you can imagine there was a lot of money flowing around which was only matched by the sheer quantity of emails bouncing back and forth through inboxes. Most days it was like email ping pong around the office with managers, personal, clients. engineers, shop workers, bosses and even the secretary getting involved. Here is how I changed all that.

As some of you will know I am currently lost somewhere in the South of India, fighting off advancing hordes of fire ants, being bled dry by ravenous mosquitoes, and sharing my bed with Chernobyl sized cockroaches…that and having a wicked time traveling. On my travels I tend to bump into people and they tend to get me thinking, which is never safe for anyone.

Why Read? (1500 words)

This post highlights a few lessons the Indian street sellers have taught me about business success which all you business owners and bloggers out there would be wise to check out. I reckon anyway…just read it.

It seems that we are not as easily manipulable by everything around us than we might think. RSA Animate have a very cool video that explores what actually motivates us in the workplace. They also have a whole load of other cool videos on their youtube feed. Worth checking out people.

However, what many of you might not know is that this was not my first business and that I have experienced the depressing swim back to shore when the shiny new boat you were happily sailing away from the crowd on abruptly sank. On reflection, I should have seen it coming, the boat had many holes that I was just too foolish or blind to see, it was a miracle I got out of the harbor at all. Here’s what I learn’t.

I dug this little number out of the archive bin. It was a fledgling post I wrote back in ’07 for my very first blog “Naked Business” but as that blog is long gone now i’m stealing it. The old owner was a jackass so he won’t care.

For those that have been living in a cave for the last few weeks we are only a short time away from the SUCCESS book launch at the end of the month.
