Rich Dad Poor Dad

I have been an avid fan and follower of Robert T. Kiyosaki for many years now. Robert is a self made millionaire who went from nothing to retired decamillionaire status in less than 10 years. He is the founder of Richdad.com, an excellent resource of books, videos, games and tapes on becoming free of the rat race and leaving rich. He is modest, down to earth and writes without jargon and so is an ideal place to start to learn about the wealth game and how to play it.

If you have any intention of becoming rich in one generation then I highly recommend getting hold of his books and resources. I get no commission from these links, this is simply to help you take the first step on the road to wealth. I have bought his books for many of my friends and family because I believe in them so strongly.

.

Why Expand Your Reality

In his books, Robert constantly relays advice that he received from his “Rich Dad”, a man who also went from very little to becoming one of the wealthiest men in Hawaii during his lifetime.

In the plan for becoming wealthy Rich Dad religiously drills home the point that the first and hardest step for becoming wealthy is to expand ones reality from where you are now, to where you want to be.

He teaches, and remember that not only did he go from nothing to one of the richest men in Hawaii, but the two sons he taught also have become decamillionaires in a short period of time without his inheritance, that it does not take money or a high IQ to become rich, the reason only 5% of the population do is because 95% do not expand their reality.

.

To Expand Or Not To Expand

The concept of expanding your reality has been regurgitated by many gurus of self help, lifestyle design, success and so on. The core of expanding your reality is imagining and focussing on that which currently does not exist and focussing your thoughts, attitudes and actions towards this dream vision in order to align all your faculties in a configuration that will allow you to make it a reality. Very jargon heavy, very nice in theory, but how practical is it?

.

Expanded Experimentation

My experiment on the 1st of April was to investigate a more creative way on how I could expand my own reality. And also see if anyone thought I was actually capable of selling a company for $1,000,000.

The great thing was, almost everyone did, very few people called me on it. Which is an ego boost, so thank you readers.

Like you, I have plans for my future, for the next year, the next 5, 10 and 20 years. I know where I want to be, the lifestyle I want and I visualize it in great detail in order that what my mind focuses on and what I do today helps build the bridge to my future dreams.

That being said, focusing and visualizing is great but am I really “Changing my reality?. I did not know and when I do not know something I ask questions or I experiment. April fools day was an experiment.

.

The April Fools Experiment

I have a great readership community on this blog and I believe our communication is good but feel free to disagree. I get a lot of emails from readers and I try to help them on an individual basis as well as a group basis as much as possible. I get great comments on my articles and great feedback on the positive effects my advice is having on peoples lives. This is a great joy to me and the reason I blog, to help myself improve my life and to help others improve their lives.

So my experiment on April 1 was a risk because I didn’t want to mislead people and have them lose faith in my integrity, I hope this has not been the case. By writing that I had sold my company for $1,15 million dollars, however, did produce an incredible paradigm shift in my own thinking.

On my blog I do not fabricate, short of this one post. What I write is a reflection of what I have done or am doing. Over the last six months that I have been blogging the articles I write are like a diary of my journey, documenting my thinking. It is this power I wanted to tap into in order to experiment with expanding my reality.

By writing an article about how I had sold my business for over a million dollars the power of this statement was huge, almost a paradigm shift. I had written that I had sold a million dollar business on a platform where my mind knows I always tell the truth to a readership of between 500 and 1000 people that read my articles and I am accountable to. the fabrications in this one article held very little sway in my minds eye over 78 other articles of telling the truth.

In short, my brain stepped up a gear and my thinking has really expanded.

The power of this blogging platform is more powerful than I could have imagined. By writing this article, though not true, and reading the real life comments from it has completely revolutionized my thinking.

Even though I know consciously it is not true, subconsciously my mind is having trouble thinking otherwise as it has been trained to know I always tell the truth on this blog. It seems to be thinking that selling my business for over a million dollars was actually quite a real deal. It doesn’t care that I don’t actually have the money in the bank or the fact that I have now admitted it was a joke. It seems to believe it and subsequently my thinking has dramatically and drastically changed.

I now feel, more than I ever have before, that someday soon I will indeed be writing a similar article and it won’t be an April fools post. And I don’t just think this in a fanciful way, as I may have done before, I now believe, on a subconscious level, that this is a very real, if not inevitable, likelihood. My reality  has indeed been well and truly expanded. Experiment successful.

.

To Sum Up

Expanding you reality daily is key to getting the most out of life, not being ordinary and seeing success, wealth and happiness. How you expand you mind is critical and sometimes it takes some creative ways in which to do it.

Other ways, like reading the biographies of great man and women, are more traditional but just as effective and April Fools is a great time to mess with other peoples minds and your own subconscious.

Peace all and thanks for reading.

mate I cant wait for the rich dad seminar next week. so the experiment went well!
i suppose those that know you well enough to call it called it.

  2. Nell says:

I have not read much on expanding one’s reality, but I really like the concept. It falls in line with the “act bigger than you are” kind of attitude. I think this was a cool little experiment that demonstrates howa lot of other people believe that you are more than capable of achieving your goals. Cheers!

  3. I must say that I was one of the fools who believed your post but when I realized the date I had to laugh.

I can totally see how knowing that the majority of people would believe you are capable of making a million dollars would totally raise your level of self-confidence. Self doubt goes out the window.

    Well played, sir.

    • Jonny says:

      Lol Kenji,

Why thank you sir. I was a bit of a risk both on annoying my great readers or even worse if everyone pulled me on it straightaway though you are indeed right that it has been an incredible confidence boost and one I can reflect back on next time not everything seems to be going my way.

I still can’t get over how awesome your blog title is, dammit I should have thought of that.

      Thanks for the comment.

  4. Ben Weston says:

    Hey Jonny,

I fully with you on this one. I just wrote a post about it actually. I’m also in the process of expanding my beliefs so that they include the kind of wealth I want.

    See you at the top,
    Ben

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Ben,

I read your post and it seems you have definitely grasped the same concept I was looking at here. Other readers can read Ben’s post here.

      Thanks for the comment.

What an awesome April’s Fool Joke !

    And a great lesson !

Expanding your reality is so cool, I constantly imagine a planet where I rule a society as an emperor. It’s totally delusional, and it helps me taking off the pressure of my business. Grrreat post !

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Mars,

Glad you enjoyed it and even more that you took something from the lesson that was sneakily instilled into it. I personally think that any success and wealth first begins in the mind and your reality is the greatest asset you own. Before wealth and success one has to get control of their mind and their thinking…in whatever way they can.

Good luck with your new videos. I wanted to watch it but the internet over here in India is too slow. Any other readers want to watch it and let me know what you think you can link to it here.

  6. Earl says:

After reacting to your April Fools post with a ‘damn! well done Jonny!’, I quickly realized the date. However, truthfully, it didn’t sound so far fetched… everything is possible.

And with expanding my thinking, the key for me is to maintain that level and not fall back when faced with disappointment or frustration.

    • Jonny says:

Hi Earl, my apologies on the misleading, I hope you can forgive me however thanks for the confidence boost that it didn’t sound “too” far fetched. Maybe I will be writing another post similar to this in the next 24 months.

I agree with you, once you have expanded your reality things can, do and will go wrong. There will be massive setbacks and it is then easy to lose your new vision. Hold onto it ruggedly Earl.

Thanks for the comment and I loved you latest post on creative income while travelling.

  7. Alex Monroe says:

I fell for that joke…Seriously though great post. Expanding is incredible and I think it needs to be done keep you moving to the next level. Great post man.

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Alex,

Lol, Glad to hear you are not out to hurt me because of it. As I have said many times before, it is only by expanding ones reality, however we do it, that we can move on to better and greater things for the benefit of everyone.

      Thanks for the comment.

  8. Tim Good says:

It’s true. I fell for it. But then again I know Jonny well and my first question was; “what! Only 1.15?”

Not I’m just kidding but then I would not have been surprised if he had sold it for a good amount so soon.

My point is that this prank alone gave me a kick. I was thinking to myself I need to turn it up a notch and I still do. I don’t need to work myself stupid but just work more efficiently. Work more and play more.

It is difficult though especially if you’re running a venture alone which is why I’m currently writing a short article on mutual mentoring. I.e. getting entrepreneurs together to encourage and keep energy levels up. I’ll report back.

Cheers for the kick Jonny! Working better already.

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Tim,

If you fell for it then I am a happy man and once we have both sold our first businesses for that million we can take three months and sail round the world. We’ll start small this summer mate.

Glad to have given you a kick mate but if you think you have to turn it up a notch then I must really be falling behind. I better go into overdrive to catch up.

Looking forward to the article on mutual mentoring, it is something I need to look into more seriously when I am back in the UK this summer.

Cheers for the comment and cheers for the post.

  9. Fredrik says:

You only have 1000 regular readers?:O

You writes great articles and loves to read them, much inspiring.
And nothing work with experimenting, maybe you should get use to living as you had the million already or atleast play with the thought.
Hope to meet you, when we’re both millionaires or before.

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Fredrik,

Actually I have a lot less than that but thanks for your encouraging words.

Look forward to a millionaire breakfast mate.

      Thanks for the comment.

  10. Will says:

To be fair to the rest of the readers here, I’m his brother and I believed it (I was almost tempted to phone him up to chastise him on why he hadn’t splashed some cash my way yet!).

Rather than prove I really should know my brother more, I feel it should definitely be a confidence boost because I truly believed it had happened, and in fact I believe more than ever that this will become a reality quicker than even he thinks.

A good April Fools, n’ don’t forget to treat me to dinner when you do get your first million – I can’t rely on British tax payers forever =D

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Bro,

Lol, possibly the best comment I have had on the site to date. Can’t believe I managed to get a family member hook, line and sinker as well. Now I really don’t have any excuse not to make a million pretty soon. Bro, when I make my firstmillion we are all going on a cruise, I am not sure the British tax payers can support you any longer.
