In my post How to live a great life abroad without having a job” I advocated that one could get up to 300-400% interest on their money by moving to where currency exchange is favorable. I don’t generally make rash statements without proof to back it up unless I am trying to impress girls.

Here is the proof that experiencing the world doesn’t have to cost the earth if you take full advantage of currency exchange.

Photo is of myself and Gua the elephant.

.

What would £122 get you in England?

.

  • A new Jacket?
  • A night out?
  • A Damn Good Meal?
  • An Ipod?
  • A hotel room for two nights?
  • 5 Fun filled minutes at the black jack table?

.

Here is what it will get you in Thailand.

.

  • 4 Days in Chiang Mai
  • Elephant Trekking
  • White Water Rafting
  • Traditional Bamboo Rafting
  • Jungle Trekking
  • Private swim in a tropical rainforest waterfall
  • 2Km of intense Zip Lines 300 foot above the forest floor
  • 3 Hours of foot and back massages
  • 3 Nights in a four star hotel with breakfast and internet access and a pool.
  • Trip to Chiang Mai Panda Park, Safari Park and Aquarium
  • The chance to touch a Hippo’s tongue and almost lose a hand.
  • 2 three course restaurant meals of outstanding quality including one aboard a boat with live entertainment.
  • All taxi fares and all food, drink and ice cream costs
  • Flights to and from Chiang Mai back to Bangkok
  • A chance to meet and converse with many varied people from around the world.

Total cost £122

Experiencing the world really doesn’t have to cost the earth. It is just a case of creating the systems and designing your life in such a way that lets you best benefit from what the world can offer.

That’s impressive. You mean all those things for just £122 right?

Great post. I love hearing about how much can be achieved over sees for so little money. And one tactic I use to continue saving for travel is simply ask myself “How many nights accommodation could this get me in Thailand?” Most of the time that’ll get me to rethink my purchases. :)

True David. A four star hotel with pool and breakfast will cost you about £6 a night when sharing but you can land yourself a backpackers place for less then a pound a night.

Morning Kristin. I’m here for a while. If you happen to make it out to Thailand on your travels I will hook you up.

There are better deals in life, we only need to explore them. There are a lot of good things out there. :-)

I did that when I was in Australia and went to New Zealand. The American dollar was very strong for a couple weeks compared to the NZ dollar so I exchanged a bunch of money and booked flights for my gf and I to Auckland. Ended up working out perfect and saved a ton of money on top of seeing a country I hadn’t planned on.

That is exactly what Mark of http://migrationology.com is doing in Thailand.

Fantastic! Im heading to Thailand in March and have been wondering how much to budget. While I know this isnt the point of your entry, it’s of great use! Thank you =)

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Kelly,

Good for you, I am sure you are going to love it. I highly recommend living in Bangkok. You will need to budget about £600 or $800 a month to live very well but you can live on less, depends on what you have available. Definitely let me know how it goes.

      Love your site design btw.
