Rule Number 1: The work of a traveling entrepreneur is never done and the office will always follow you.
Rule Number 2: This is not necessarily a bad thing.
Hello readers, I am back and to date have not been eaten by sharks of which, I can say, I am particularly pleased.
Why Read:
So I have spent the last 8 days in the spectacular island of Ko Tao in South Thailand scuba diving with bull sharks, eating excellent food looking over white sandy beaches, destroying rental bikes and generally making a giant nuisance of my self in typical English fashion.
.
In all of this work followed me – I tried to fight it but I lost, my work is a labour of passion and that little bugger is a nightmare to turn off, even with the help of mind numbingly slow internet connections.
.
Though I worked on holiday which I know is regarded as a cardinal sin, one beauty of being a traveling entrepreneur is that the “office” from which you work is not confined to four white walls and a lump of blue tack and so this returning post highlights my four favourite “offices” I worked from while in Ko Tao, I hope you enjoy.

Workplace Anthropometrics – Optomising The Worker Bee
.
There has been and still is a ridiculous amount of research into “workplace anthropomentrics” or ,in laymans terms,
.
- the process of working out how to keep an individual sat in one position for as long as possible without causing any major lawsuits.
.
All this research and hours of white clad scientists pouring over clipbaords and unfortunate “test specimins” seems to have concluded that the most optimium position for a worker bee is to be sat on a chair in a bare cubical with minimal contact with the outside world. Additional research seems to have concluded that painting everything white or a sickly shade of green will also increase productivity.
.
As much as I love scientists in white lab coats and personalised clipboards I have to repectlessly disagree with their conclusions on productive working environments.
.
After extensive personal research, my results suggest a completely different approach as detailed below.
.
TE AnthroPROmetrics
.
Please note the lack of walls, added greenery, gentle breeze, friendly neighborhood spiders and spectacular views.
From an anthropometric view please also note the working position – Focussed more on an adapted prone position with arms laid gently at side and working tool rested tentatively on top, arse cradled snugly and barefoot to allow maximum benefit from the breeze.
.
I think most would agree that with this revolutionary approach workers could work for a week straight without discomfort – possible longer.
.
Now onto the offices.
.
Wall Less Office Working
.
Here are my top four office locations when I was working in Ko Tao.
Office 1 – The “If I was Nude Right Now I Could Be Swimming” One
Honestly, this is not a bad place for inspiration. The Thai green curry they do is also pretty special.
Office 2 – The “Sunset Boulevard Of Tear Rendering Beauty” One
Great in the evenings to work on my novels while watching the sun set.
Office 3 – The “Please Don’t Let The Sand Get In My Laptop” One
This place was amazing during the day for two very good reason – 18 pence bottled coke and 60 pence ice-cream sundays – Oh and the view.
Office 4 – The “Pièce De Résistance” one.
This place was called Sunset View, ironically named as it was on the wrong side of the island for the sunset, and was my favourite office of all.

Get Your Own Office
.
There you go readers, not a necessarily long or in-depth post but hopefully a bit of inspiration for making the final push for getting you to make the leap out of the rat race. I hope you enjoyed it and as always if you have any questions or you think I could help you reach your dreams, please get in contact and I will try my very best.
Do me a favour, help me promote the site as I am pretty useless at the self marketing thing at the moment. Top 5 most interesting ways to promote the site get an air kiss.

Cheers Oscar. I’ve moved it temporarily back into Bangkok but hope to shift the bad boy out of the country again soon. Btw love your latest post.
Very inspirational article Jonny
I’m jealous as hell, the island looks gorgeous. I’m tweeting this. Do you have a twitter account?
Hi Steven, I do have a Twitter account having been made to get one by Cody from ThrillingHeroics.com although I have yet to actually sit down and do anything with it. I will set it up properly and start using it in the next few days. Would be great to have you as a follower.
The island was indeed spectacular, truly beautiful…like many of the women here lol

Thanks mate…got a little tired of a blank, gray head Silhouette
Great pics. I love it in Koh Tao. I hope your diving was amazing.
It was Casey, it was. Great looking site you have. Thanks for the comment.
I love this and even though I have left the rat race. You are making me want to sit in more beautiful offices than my own home. I think I will open up my office more. I am using a laptop ya know.
Gerlaine, that brings a big smile to my face. It is great to know that the work here is helping people and making a real difference so thank you.
Now get your laptop and get outside.
Love the pictures! I am working towards leaving the rat race right now, even if it’s just for a year or two. I look forward to reading more post from you!
Ngoc, good to hear that my friend. Anything I might be able to help you out with just let me know.
Man, I’ve got one word for you: ENVY!
No, just kidding.
But that sure is the nicest “office” I’ve ever seen.
Also: Nice new design!
Cheers,
Shane
Fantastic! If you can do this, so can I. Thanks for the inspiration =)
Definitely Kelly, Thanks for dropping past and I am glad it helped.
[...] Cubicle With A View: The Office Of A Traveling Entrepreneur [...]
Very nice Johnny. Sadly though I have to agree with the white coats – although relaxing on a pugh with a view of the Gulf of Thailand is nice, I reckon you can get more done when there’s nothing to stare at and distract you. Better to crack out the work in a sterile environment, then head out to truly enjoy the beach afterwards!
[I've experimented at length!]
It’s possible you might just me right on that one.
I love that so may places have
wi-fi now
But, as I go on holiday with the wife,
I leave the laptop at home.
btw..hard to comment on your blog
when the right hand side
of the blog box
is cut off by adverts
Thats the only way to do it Jason, I can imagine wives get pretty riled if you choose a laptop over them.
