The Ultimate Conclusion

All in all I Had the most incredible 3 Months of my life and most importantly:

I ESCAPED THE RAT RACE

I actually made more money through my businesses then I spent when I was away and had an insane amount of free time to pursue my own future ideas as well

My hope is that this post will inspire others to do the same. It is a risk but trust me, the risk is definately worth.

So there you go, what three months might look like if you take the risk and get out of the rat race. It has been wet, rough and very tiring but I loved every minute of it. My laptop, watch and camera are off to India in January so more adventures to follow.

Wet, Tired and Feeling Good

Wet, Tired and Feeling Good

This blog was set up to document my experience and help and inspire others to do the same. I was going to end it come the end of my three months but it has grown in popularity more than I would have guessed and so now I will take it on. I hope that you will continue to follow it here and thankyou for reading.

I am leaving the spectacular city that is Bangkok in the next few days and will be back in England for 6 weeks before heading out again to travel India for 3 months but I will still be blogging, so I hope you continue to follow.

Let me know if this post has inspired you or any questions you would like me to answer just send them through and check out the Flicker Photos.

If you know anyone that would benefit from reading this post then spread it around through twitter, facbook and the like. Remember it makes you instantly more attractive to the opposite sex.

From Bangkok for the last time for a while.

Peace.

Awesome, reminds me of my last trip through SE Asia. This time I’m based in Koh Lanta for a while to do some work.

Have fun in India. I’ve never been but I hear it’s a lot more hardcore than SE Asia.

    • Jonny says:

      Hello Neil,

Welcome to the blog and thanks for the comment. Yeah I heard the hardcore stories as well, can’t wait.

Mate, life your site as well.

  2. Absolutely awesome post. I really need to get off my butt and head overseas already.

    • Jonny says:

      Cheers David,

Mate you have the freedom and obviously have the ability so I look forward to some travel photos on your site fairly soon.

  3. That’s amazing Jonny. I didn’t know you were going to stay 3 months. Anyway I definitely want to visit thailand for a few months like you, and I’ll do it as soon as m business will grow more. Definitely keep the blog!

    • Jonny says:

      Cheers Oscar.

My current thinking is that 3 months is a good amount of time to spend in one place and get the most out of it. Definitely get out to Thailand, it is incredible.

  4. Colin Wright says:

Gorgeous photos and great reminiscences, brother.

Keep up the good work and I’ll keep coming back!

  5. Hey Jonny!
Wow, you have taken some amazing pictures! Damn! :)
Do you actually make money with your pictures aswell, like by putting them on iStockphotos? Maybe you should even start your own website and put your photos on there for sale with the rights to them. :) They really are beautiful!

You’re having the adventure of a lifetime man, really cool!
Enjoy it to the max! :)

    Cheers
    Diggy

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Diggy,

Cheers for the compliments but I don’t think I’m good enough to sell my photos quite yet, its just a hobby but one I definitely love and would like to improve. However I might submit some of them to Istock like you suggest and see how they do.

Keep up the great work with your blog man, your writing is awesome.

  6. Dan says:

If that doesn’t get people inspired I don’t know what will, awesome post man.

    • Jonny says:

      Cheers Dan, Appreciate the comment.

I checked out your blog and have subscribe, looks awesome mate. I look forward to reading your work.

  7. Nate says:

Epic post, very inspiring. I’ve gotta ask… How was shooting the AK? That’s a dream of mine, I think it would be quite a cool feeling.

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Nate,

Ok, firing the AK was frikking amazing mate. As it happens the kick back when firing in semi auto is actually not that bad and the weapon is very accurate. On automatic its a completely different story and you would be hard pressed to hit a bus from 10 metres.

  8. Hi Jonny! This is best article you’ve done so far in my opinion. Those pictures are gorgeous and the whole idea is incredibly inspiring.

    • Jonny says:

      HI Stephen,

Cheers pal, took me a while to compile all the photos and write the post so thank you for the comment. I truly hope that it will inspire people to get out and have their own adventure.

  9. Very cool pictures Jonny.

    Congrats on living the life!

    • Jonny says:

      Hi John,

Thanks man. It’s an ongoing life design project but its been a good three month start.

Btw, I am loving your interview roll you have going on your blog, excellent stuff and you have interviewed some really great people.

  10. Wow, you have probably done more exciting things in 3 months than many people do throughout their whole lifetime. This is an incredible collection of photos and commentary. You are not by any chance a professional journalist are you?

By the way – your amazing life makes me jealous. Once I graduate college in a couple weeks I need to start embarking on my own adventures! :)

    • Jonny says:

      Hello “The Emotion Machine”,

Sorry I couldn’t find your name on your site.

Thanks for visiting the site and truly thank you very much for you very kind words. As flattering as your comments were I am afraid to say that I am not a professional journalist, I only really got into photography about 11 months ago and started blogging around 4 months ago. I try to do the best I can and thank you for a great confidence boost to continue to get better. I will definitely be checking out your blog.

      Good luck to your adventures.

  11. Ash says:

Just gonna throw this out there…at first sight, before reading the caption, I honestly had NO IDEA what the hippo’s mouth was. My brain went, “What the *@&#?!?!”

What part of India are you headed to, champ? Basing yourself in one area or doing a bit of traveling around? Please do remember to post photos of yourself doing wild, crazy yoga poses. ;) Cheers, buddy!

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Ash,

Wild crazy yoga pictures it is, although I am sure I already might have some. Loose plan is to fly to Mumbai then traveling down to Banglore and back up towards Nepal, spend some time in the mountains then back towards Goa and hitch up there for a month of so, get some serious surfing or diving in…unless I get on the wrong plane, in which case, no idea.

  12. Lance says:

    Awesome photos!

More than that, though, what a truly awesome experience!

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Lance,

Cheers pal. Jungle of life, love the name. Will be subscribing and checking your site out. Thanks for dropping past.

  13. jamie says:

hay Jonny i cant belive our time is at a end we have had a blast here in bangkok, and its sad to leave. we have done so much in this trip its been mad when i think about it. thanks bro.

  14. Wow!! Those photos are amazing, what a great way to share with us. Thanks for posting them!

    Cheers,
    Miche :)

  15. Lisis says:

Jonny, I wanted to let you know that I found your post beautiful and inspiring. It’s ironic because I just wrote a long post cautioning readers against carelessly dropping it all to pursue their life’s passions… though maybe that applies more to people with families, mortgages, and mature careers.

Either way, your post could inspire many who have the right skills and resources to pursue their dreams. I congratulate you for making yours come true and have added a link at the end of my article to include you as a “follow your passion” success story.

    Stunning photos, btw! :)

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Lisis,

Thanks for taking the time to visit and thank you for your generous comments and for including me as a success story although I think it might be too early to conclude on that one, lol.

I love the look of your site and have subscribed. Can’t wait to read some of your stuff.

  16. Great photos and commentary. Retweeted!

  17. Love it! Nice work.

You’re obviously a good photographer, but how are you getting the good photos of you! Must have some good photographer friends as well.

    Cheers,
    Brian

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Brian,

Lol, thanks for the insight. I passed on your message to my fellow photographer, (she is actually the blonde in the photos). She replied that she always knew that she was better than me. I tend to agree as I’m not arguing with a passionate woman, God no.

  18. Earl says:

Jonny, I don’t think your followers would let you abandon this blog. This post rocks, this site rocks! And you’re definitely a success…you might not yet be as financially successful as you want, but it is clear from reading your posts that you are now following a path that leads to the freedom and happiness you seek. Without a doubt, that is a success.

I’m excited for your trip to India and am curious to hear your thoughts. Enjoy your time at home!

    • Jonny says:

      HI Earl,

Mate thanks, really kind words and they are truly appreciated. I will definitely be writing them down and referring back to them when I need a boost.

I am unbelievably grateful for the fantastic support and encouragement I have received from the readers here. It is truly inspirational and I hope that I will be able to continue to provide you guys with excellent content.

  19. Karen says:

    Johnny,

I’m so jealous! I wish I was 20 years younger and could just take off like that and live the good life :-) It looks like you are building memories that will live a lifetime and you will be able to say that you truly lived.

Good for you for overcoming your fears and just doing what a lot of people are too afraid to do. It takes a lot of courage to take that first step and continue on a different path than most people. But, you are now experiencing the rewards that come along with the risks.

The pictures of the sunsets are particularly awe-inspiring. You have a real eye (and talent) for photography. It’s been great to follow your progress here.

Can’t wait for the pictures and the stories you’ll have of India!

    Karen

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Karen,

Truly I can’t say it enough, thank you so much for you comments, you have no idea how grateful I am that people have taken the time and an interest in what I write, photograph and experience. I am blown away.

Also, love the article on Rick Smiths book “The Leap”. Rick was kind enough to send me a copy of his book a few months ago and there is actually a non-review post of it on the site under the same title as the post. I thought it was an excellent read for those in a job and those that aren’t.

Thanks for dropping past Karen and I hope you continue to visit. It would be an honor having you here.

  20. Those pics are awesome, Jonny. Looks like the vacation of a lifetime to me. Thanks for sharing with us.

  21. jason khor says:

awesome photos! i love the way you live your life!

  22. Vincent says:

    Hi Johny,

Wow. You got a whole lot of great pictures here. It is inspiring to see how you got out of the rat race. I will be looking forward to your stories and photos when you go to India for 3 months time again.

    Cheers,
    Vincent

  23. Definitely inspiring! The photos, the activities, the location, and the message. Thanks so much for sharing.

My family recently made the decision to start living abroad. We’ll be starting with Costa Rica (leaving Jan 6), but hope to make our way to Asia eventually. I look forward to following your adventures as well.

By the way, did you use a nice SLR camera for those photos, or just a point and shoot? They’re amazing! (If you say point and shoot, I’ll know I just need to practice). :)

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Brandon,

Good to hear hear of your family plans. I have never been to costa Rica but I hear it is awesome. All the best of luck.

Yes, the photos were taken with a SLR as a standard point and shoot wouldn’t give the same picture quality but the good news is that it as an entry level one. I think I picked mine up for £180 in a sale. Cannon D1000.

  24. Jonny, mate, I didn’t realize when you said you’re traveling you meant you’re leaving Bangkok for good! Damn man, why’d you have to lose your phone or whatnot! Tried to get in touch, but I’ll miss you and James. Please say hey for me. I leave today to spend the next 3 weeks at the beach in Krabi. If for some reason plans change, you should definitely come join me & friends for Christmas down there. Otherwise, I wish you guys safe travels and hope to run into you again down the road somewhere. Great blog mate!

    • Jonny says:

Cody you sexy piece of man,

Great getting to know you my friend these last months. You are a legend. I will definitely search you out next time our paths cross in the same country. Keep up the awesome tweetups and your stonking blog mate.

  25. lavitaèbella says:

    Semplicemente fantastico, incredibile e meraviglioso.
Grazie per aver condiviso il Blog.

  26. Wow great adventure. Looks like an amazing experience, I’m sure you’ve learned a lot of it. I’ve enjoyed reading this post. Seeing these pictures brought me back memories from my year in Puerto Rico.

India will be incredible too. I look forward seeing more from you and your experience in India.

    Thanks for sharing.

    See you Jonny :)

    • Jonny says:

      Hi David,

It truly was an incredible experience my friend, the first of many I hope. What were you doing for a year in Puerto Rico and what is it like. Worth spending three months there?

      Ready for India.

  27. AdventureRob says:

Awesome look back at the past 3 months! My time in SE Asia was similar, it’s a great place :-)

    • Jonny says:

Adventure Rob eh? Sounds like your definitely a traveller and have been to some pretty awesome places. Thanks for dropping past the site and I hope you come back again mate. All the best on your travels.

  28. Adrian says:

    Thanx for sharing!

    • Jonny says:

      Hello Adrian,

You need to get yourself out for a three month mini retirement, sabbatical or whatever you want to talk call it. It truly is a life changing and eye opening experience, please excuse the cliches.

  29. Adrian says:

I do believe you bro. Even just moving from one country to other made an influence on me, seeing more countries, meeting more people, getting exposed to more new stuff would make it even bigger. I have my plan, now I’m in action phase and in a year I should be traveling :)

  30. Schmidty says:

Great post and really enjoyed your photos…look like you’ve had some amazing memories…

Your ONE favorite photo and/or location which embodies where you’re at right now?

    Be well and chat soon!

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Jeff,

Amazing memories? Definitely check. Favorite photo? The one with the street kid and the chickens.

      Cheers for the comment.

  33. Jonny says:

Thank you to all those that have taken the time and effort to comment on this post.

It truly is inspiration to have some much feedback and support so thankyou.

  34. Hi Jonny,

I suspect Phwoar came a close second for favorite photo? :)

Excellent trip. I’m gnawing at the ropes, it they break before my teeth do….

    • Jonny says:

      HI Charles,

A very close second, but don’t tell Anjel, one of the lovely young ladies in the phot,o as she doesn’t like being second in anything.

      Thanks for the comment.

  35. Casey says:

Those are some awesome pics and memories. I have been back in the States for a couple months and this is not helping my travel bug, haha. Keep up the good travels.

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Casey,

Glad I could help. I’m gonna do my very best to agitate that travel bug of yours, hope you don’t mind.

  36. Tony says:

Great post Jonny. You help me realize why I’m working so hard in order to someday travel the world.

  37. Mackie says:

That is beautiful and amazing. Congratulations. It is rather encouraging to me. It looks like you had the time of your life.

    • Jonny says:

      HI Mackie,

It was indeed an incredible time, and one of many to follow I hope. I am glad that it encourages you as this is the whole point of the blog.

  38. PAPA says:

Jonny, holy BEAUTY!!!! Your shots are stunning!!!!!!!!!! And I like that you kept your text simple.

This was a remarkable post, excellent pictures. I can see you enjoy beauty in life just as I do.

    THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!!!!

  39. What an amazing adventure. The pictures are beautiful and it is clear that you had a wonderful time. I can’t wait to learn of your adventures in India.

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Nea,

Thanks for dropping past the site. It truly was an amazing time and I am definitely looking forward to more adventures in India. Watch this space.

  40. kombizz says:

I guess if you got freeload money from your rich dad or your partner, then you can spend it as you did.
But, hey if you are poor, not matter you do, you are still poor.

    • Jonny says:

      Hi Kombizz,

Actually I will have to correct you on that.

I have never received any money from my dad or anyone else that allowed me to travel. My parents were always big on me making my own way in the world and so was I. I worked as a project manager for a few years, lived on less than 60% of what I earned and saved the rest. I started my company in the evenings when I returned from work and when I eventually quit my job I lived off the money I had saved. Now my company is making money and that is what funds me.

If you have a mentality of being poor then you will always remain poor. I am not saying it is easy, but it is possible, it just depends on how much you are willing to sacrifice. When I was living on 60% of my earnings I couldn’t afford a car so I bought a motorbike, rented a less nice apartment, went out slightly less then I would have wanted to. I did this because I had a long term plan that is now starting to pay off.

So you can believe that I freeloaded on someone else’s money should you wish to and that is the reason I can do what I do but you will find that it is not the case.

  41. Jonny. You are much akin to buddha. And james bond. And Grand Master Flash. And baby jesus. And lin from Shantaram. And tomb raider. And 50 Cent. And a CIA agent. And…

This lit little neurochemical firecrackers and turned gravity upside down and inside out by firing them out of my mind and into the ball of white light that i imagine instead of thinking about the heart as a bloody, throbbing organ. Unravelled memories of the taste of fresh Indian air and the musky tongues of fresh tourist girls on fresh Indian beaches. Sexy adventure glory. The head bone’s connected to the heart bone.

Loved the way you did this.

    felt like i was there.

    that zip line looks… libidinous.

got some similar stories from India. You’re gonna love it there. Email me with some details about when and where you’re planning on going…

Interested to hear the entrepreneur part. how did you bankroll this adventure? and what were you doing while you were there when you weren’t shooting at things and ziplining like spiderman.

Reading a book by Tom Robbins called “Villa Incognito” which is partially set in Laos. Seems magical. The guy writes with a pen dipped in acid. You really should check him out. Also read Shantaram by Gregory Roberts if you haven’t already. Mind exploding.

Also, mail me some more photos of those delicious lil creatures of love ala “Phwoar”. Them bitches is Yumalicious :P

    Super inspiring man.

    really.

    tweeted+stumbled

    Keep well mate
    alex

    • Jonny says:

      Hello Alex you crazy mofo.

Cheers for the comments. Il let the girls know you are after them, in the least spooky, stalkerish way I can. :)

As it happens I am putting together a post about how I bankrolled it just at the moment following a lovely post from someone who said that I was lucky that rich daddy could bankroll my life so I can go swanning off. Lol, this made me smile and so I’ll answer it in the next post.

      Later pal,

  42. oh and is it true what they say about those bars where they can use chopsticks and play ping pong and twiddle their thumbs and write you a haiku and open a beer and tickle your inner beast… all with their?!?!

    just a rumour i heard.

  43. MikeKey says:

As awesome as that was, it would of been even more awesome if you put your head in the Hippos mouth, rather than your hand. :)

  44. Well you have a new fan in me Johnny! I’m love the photography and your sense of humour coupled with the honesty! I admire you and love what you’re doing!

  45. Ajay says:

Thailand is definitely awesome. And since you are coming to India, you’ll probably have some more great stories to tell. Looking forward to those photos!
